Importing to Unreal Engine
Recommended Format
GLB. Unreal Engine 5.x imports it natively through the Interchange importer, with the baked PBR textures embedded in the file. The Game preset is a sensible default for real-time use.
Import Steps (GLB)
- 1
Export from PolyMedium
Download your asset as GLB (Game preset)
- 2
Import into Unreal
Drag the GLB into the Content Browser, or right-click → Import to /Game
- 3
Confirm the Interchange options
Keep "Import Materials" and "Import Textures" enabled so the baked PBR maps come across
- 4
Drop it in the level
The generated material instance is already wired to base color, normal, and roughness/metallic
Materials
PolyMedium models ship baked PBR textures(base color, normal, and roughness/metallic) embedded in the GLB, not vertex colors. Unreal creates a material instance for each on import; no manual material graph is needed. If you want a different look, duplicate the generated material instance rather than editing the imported one.
Troubleshooting
- • Untextured mesh: Re-import with "Import Materials" and "Import Textures" enabled
- • Scale issues: Check import scale (Unreal uses cm)
- • Smoothing issues: Try "Import Normals and Tangents"
