Convert any image to a 3D model with AI
Updated August 30, 2026 · Published August 29, 2026
PolyMedium's image-to-3D pipeline turns any 2D reference into a real 3D mesh with baked PBR textures. Photos, drawings, concept art, screenshots: upload it, and from $0.25 you have a model you can export. You don't tell it what you uploaded; it works that out and picks the pipeline itself, which matters because a character, a hard-surface prop, and a crayon drawing each need a different reconstruction recipe.
How it works
- 1
Upload your image
Photo, drawing, sketch, or screenshot. Backgrounds and lighting are handled automatically when the image is restaged before reconstruction. PNG, JPG, or WebP up to 15 MB.
- 2
Reconstruction runs
The subject is classified automatically (character, object, or kid's drawing), the background is removed, and a TRELLIS-based engine on fal.ai reconstructs the mesh. The price of the row is shown before you commit: $0.25 for an object or a drawing, $1.00 for a character at standard quality.
- 3
Export, or upgrade
Download as GLB (Web / Game / Mobile presets), USDZ for iOS AR, STL for 3D print, or a turntable GIF, all free. Worth keeping? Move it up its own ladder for the difference in price: +$0.25 for an object or a drawing, and characters step up the same way.

FAQ
What image formats can I upload?
PNG, JPG, and WebP up to 15 MB. Any framing works; the image is restaged before reconstruction.
Do I need to remove the background first?
No. Background removal runs automatically before reconstruction.
Do I have to choose a quality level?
Almost never. Objects and drawings are $0.25 with nothing to choose. Characters are the one exception: they carry three qualities ($0.50, $1.00 standard, $3.00 hero) and default to $1.00, the one that held identity best across our bench. Upgrading is always offered afterwards, on a finished model.
How accurate is image-to-3D?
Faithful to what the image shows. Every upload is restaged into a clean studio reference first, so photo quality barely matters, and even the $0.25 object draft adds a synthesised opposite-side view so the back is reconstructed rather than guessed. What decides the result is the subject: clear single subjects shine, thin repeated parts are the hard case.
